Cambridge caretaker manager Jez George has this week suffered a triple blow.
After a great win over promotion chasers York City at The R Costing's Abbey Stadium on Saturday, George was looking forward to The U's continuing their good form against Forest Green this weekend.
Then came the call he dreaded from AFC Wimbledon manager Terry Brown telling him that he will be recalling midfielder Ricky Wellard with immediate effect. Brown cited injuries and suspensions as the reason. George said "It is a big blow to lose Ricky, he has done really well and we'll be sad to see him go".
George then suffered a double whammy when Luton Town recalled forward Dan Walker to Kenilworth Road. The striker is needed as The Hatters have eight first team players injured.
Finally, George's misery was complete when he discovered that starlet Luke Berry's ankle injury is worse than first thought. Berry could be out for sometime after twisting his ankle in Saturday's match against York.
George said " It's another blow for us as the young lad has done well and gives us energy in the midfield, he's got a complicated injury so we will have to see what happens".
The caretaker manager will now need to decide whether to dip back into the loan market or blood even more of his young players.
On a positive front Josh Coulson has returned to training and hopes to be taking a full part this week, while Simon Russell is stepping up his training although he is not fully kicking the football with his injured right leg.
The Ambermen take on Forest Green Rovers at The R Costing's Abbey Stadium this Saturday.
