Cambridge United began their new Blue Square Bet Conference season with a 1-1 draw against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground.
Although sharing 50% of the possession United were staring defeat in the face when an injury time equaliser by substitute Conal Platt rescued a point for Jez George's men.
The Cambridge team had a new look to it going into this fixture. Danny Naisbitt was preferred in goal to Simon Brown while Michael Wylde, Tom Shaw, Steve Kinniburgh, Ashley Carew, Harrison Dunk and Ryan Charles all made their debuts in the starting line up. Two other new boys Rossi Jarvis and Michael Gash took their place on the bench.
In the minutes leading up to the match the faithful Wrexham fans were making lots of noise and giving themselves a pat on the back for helping the club start the season.
The Wrexham line up had ex United striker Danny Wright in a three pronged also containing the dangerous Andy Morrell.
The Ambermen started quickly with two Adam Marriott shots on goal. Wrexham replied with a corner which was put out by Ryan Charles. Charles a minute later had a left foot shot saved by the Dragon's keeper.

On the quarter hour mark Speight jinked into the box leaving Roberts in his wake and fired a shot by the post. Sadly for Cambridge it was not long before their backline was breached. After Cambridge were caught napping in their own box the ball bounced around until Andy Morrell put his head to it and left Naisbitt helpless.
Cambridge tried to hit back when Harrison Dunk put in a cross for Adam Marriott whose side foot was blocked only for it to come out to Tom Shaw who tried his luck but also had his shot blocked.
Before the break Roberts received a yellow card for halting a Wrexham counter attack. This was followed by a Nat Percival-Knight header going over and Ashley Carew having to head off the line.
Into the second half United created a chance when Ryan Charles put in a cross which was nodded down by Dunk for Tom Shaw to crash a booming shot onto the bar. The rebound fell to Luke Berry but the youngster couldn't do anything with it.
Minutes later Dunk was denied a penalty when he was eased out of the way when attacking a ball in the box. This was swiftly followed by an Andy Morrell snapshot which was saved by Naisbitt.
For most of the rest of the second half chances were few and far between. As the match trickled to the end Wrexham got a corner which they used to run the clock down. As the injury time ticked away Cambridge snatched a dramatic and well deserved equaliser when Platt's shot beat the Wrexham keeper to send the Amberarmy wild with delight.
