CAMBRIDGE UTD 1-0 AFC TELFORD

Cambridge United returned to the R Costing's Abbey Stadium for their first home fixture of the 2011/12 season.

The Amerarmy were pleased to see former United legend in the away dugout but hoped for a big home win.

Jez George sent out an unchanged line up for the first home game. Conal Platt remained on the bench despite snatching the equaliser at the Racecourse on Saturday.

Cambridge were on the front foot from the off with Ryan Charles earning a corner from shooting off a defenders legs. The corner came to nothing but Charles was again on the attack racing through onto a Marriott flick but shot straight at the Telford keeper.

Telford then went on the attack earning a free kick from a Luke Berry handball. After been retaken, Newton fired straight at Naisbitt.

Telford should of gone ahead, when Reid broke down the left and centered for Brown, but the ball eluded him and Michael Wylde before going through to Jon Adams who was free at the back post. His effort was superbly saved by Danny Naisbitt, who jumped up to spread himself and block the rebound from point blank range.

Carew then put in a lovely free kick which was nodded back across the box by Josh Coulson into the path of Michael Wylde who put it wide.Telford produced a couple half chances which came to nothing before Cambridge went on the counter attack with new boy Harrison Dunk speeding away and managing to get a corner despite being under pressure by two defender's.

The rest of the half failed to produce any worthwhile action but it had to be said Telford looked alot more dangerous with Danny Naisbitt coming to the rescue on many occasions.

Minutes into the second half Cambridge engineered a chance when Ashley Carew whipped in a cross but Marriott's header went straight into the arms of Telford keeper Young.

Minutes later Cambridge took the lead when Marriott was put through by Berry and slammed a thunderbolt against the bar before Charles picked up the rebound and teed up Dunk for a fine finish.

Telford went straight on the attack and hit the post when a lucky rebound fell into the path of Brown. Warning signs were there as Telford began to impose themselves.

For much of the next twenty minutes it was nip and tuck with Telford having the better of the chances.

With ten minutes left Telford should of equalised when Brown missed a golden headed chance heading over from just six yards.

In injury time Telford had one final chance when they claimed a free kick twenty yards out after Rossi Jarvis committed a foul. The kick was smashed into the wall and brave blocks from Michael Gash and Michael Wylde gave the Ambermen all three points.
