Cambridge United put yet another great performance on the road with a fantastic win over Mansfield Town at Field Mill.
The victory takes Jez George's men up to third in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division.
The U's went into the game with an impressive run of one defeat in their last thirteen matches and were hoping to win again against a well resourced Mansfield Town side.
Jez George was forced into making a change with captain Michael Wylde returning to the starting line up in place of James Jennings who was not in the 16 man squad. Adam Marriott returned to the bench.
The game got underway with Cambridge conceding an early free kick which would have brought flutters to the Ambernation and manager Jez George as The U's have in recent times had a habit of giving away goals from set pieces in the opening minutes. Thankfully for everyone connected with the Ambermen the free kick was defended and the ball cleared. Following this Ashley Carew had a free kick which came to nothing and then the wide man cheekily tried to catch the home keeper out with a 50 yard lob but his shot was not strong enough to cause alarm.
The early period showed that United have developed into a useful unit. They dominated possession and kept the home team quiet.
The next chance was made by Cambridge. Michael Gash chipped a delightful ball over the defence which saw Luke Berry latch onto and smash a fierce shot which came off the inside of the post and was cleared by the Mansfield defence.
For the following ten minutes United continued to dominate proceedings before Mansfield had probably their first clear site of goal. Hegarty found himself all alone in the box but could only smash the ball over. Mansfield then again had The Ambermen under pressure when Hegarty rounded U's keeper Danny Naisbitt and squared for Green but he couldnt finish as Naisbitt got back in time to block
Going into the break it could be said Cambridge just shaded the half starting off the stronger but Mansfield coming back into it in the latter stages.

Mansfield came out into the second half all guns blazing and dominated. After fifteen minutes Dunk managed to go on a run leaving the full back in his wake but was unable to get his cross in. Almost straight away the home side took the lead. A Danny Naisbitt error allowed Green to slot home and put the hosts ahead. It was a bad decision from The U's keeper.
Mansfield's lead only lasted two minutes. United winger Harrinson Dunk darted into the box past two defenders before crashing his shot past home keeper Marriott to send the travelling Ambernation crazy.
Dunk's equaliser seem to turn the game on its head because it was only another five minutes before United went in front. Jarvis passed to Berry who set Dunk free and the winger finished well. Again the Ambernation behind the goal went crazy.
The rest of the game was fairly even with United using the counter attack to great effect.
The victory put Cambridge into third place and looking strong.
