Cambridge United travelled to The New Lawn knowing a win would take them a step nearer to survival and a defeat would more than likely drag them into the drop zone with the likes of Hayes&Yeading and Altrincham hitting form and indeed the opponents Forest Green also looking good.
Cambridge were stunned by news that Mark Bentley would not be available because of an administration error at the club meaning that Bentley had to go back to Gillingham.
Caretaker manager Jez George made a number of changes to the team with Rory McAuley replacing Bentley, Luke Berry in for Conal Platt, Adam Marriott coming in up front with Liam Hughes moving to the right of midfield.
It was a youthful team George was sending in to battle but no doubt he was hoping enthusiasm and determination would win through.
Cambridge started on the front foot with Kevin Roberts bending a cross into the box which Danny Wright failed to reach and Wright then created a chance for himself with a pivot, turn and shot but his effort landed on top of the net.
As the early moments moved on United pressed forward and Luke Berry had a chance and failed to convert but sadly suffered a gashed head which eventually led to him been taken off to hospital. Dean Sinclair was his replacement.
The following moments proved nervy for The U's as Robbie Matthews beat Simon Brown to the ball in the air and the keeper was relieved to see the ball trickle wide. Brown then followed it up with a sliced clearance which caused anxiety amongst the Amber ranks.
CAmbridge pressed forward and Danny Wright broke clear but sent his shot past the post. United continued to poor forward backed by their big support. They began to use long throws into the box putting the Green under pressure.
The rest of the half proved even until Cambridge took the lead when Dean Sinclair used his strength to burst through and smack a left foot shot into the roof of the net. Amazingly with in a minute Rovers were level when big Robbie Matthews headed home on the half time whistle.
The second half produced no goals but an even contest and Jez George and his United team had to settle for the draw.
