Cambridge United continued their unbeaten run to six with victory over Ebbsfleet United at the R Costings Abbey Stadium.
With an unbeaten five game run behind them Cambridge would of believed that this was the game to score as many goals as possible.
The only change in the squad was the return of Ryan Charles who took his place on the bench in place of Adam Marriott.
The game started with Roberts blocking a shot from Shakes after he was fed by Howe. Straight away Cambridge went down the other end with Ashley Carew charging down Herd's kick before sending a lovely cross to the back post where it was met by Peter Winn whose header was wonderfully turned behind by Edwards for a corner. The corner came in and was met by Luke Berry who put his effort over the bar. This was the first real effort of the game and Berry really should have given Cambride the lead.
From that moment Ebbsfleet tried to make things happen with a couple of attacks but to no avail.
From one of these attacks Ebbsfleet got a corner which was cleared long by Shaw. The ball fell deep into the Ebbsfleet half with the defender looking to be in control of the situation winger Peter Winn robbed him got away and slotted past the keeper.
For the next fifteen minutes Ebbsfleet turned up the pressure but failed to really trouble the Cambridge back line. On the half hour mark Cambridge doubled their lead when a corner came in and was met by Rossi Jarvis whose header smashed off the post and into the path of midfielder Tom Shaw who drilled home into the bottom corner.
This was the cushion that Jez George would have been looking for. United had pressed and harried their opponents in the way the manager always hoped for.
Cambridge went into the break two goals to the good.
The second half started in the same vein as the first with Cambridge pressing and attacking giving Ebbsfleet no time to play their game. After twenty minutes of sustained pressure Ebbsfleet found the net but unfortunately the goal was disallowed.
Cambridge seemed nervous although comfortable at 2-0. Peter Winn could have put the game out of sight but missed two glorious chances, one of which he blazed over from eight yards.
Manager Jez George used the dominance of the U's to make a couple of substitutions bringing on Ryan Charles for the impressive Luke Berry and Keiran Murtagh for Michael Gash. Charles got involved straight away playing a one-two with Winn but the winger failed to make use of the return pass. Winn later came off for Harrison Dunk as the game stuttered to the end. Cambridge were comprehensive winners dominating in the possession and chances.
