BRETT JOHNSON ON LOAN AT CAMBRIDGE

Cambridge United have announced the loan signing of AFC Wimbledon centre back Brett Johnson..

Johnson will join for a month to cover the injured Josh Coulson who currently has a groin injury and will be out for a few weeks.

The injury to Coulson has left the team with just two recognised centre back's in the squad. The two are Blaine Hudson and Rory McAuley. Hudson has recently been on loan after injury and has settled into the centre of the defence in recent weeks. McAuley has been back from injury recently but has taken his place on the bench because of the form of Coulson, Wylde and Hudson.

Johnson is a centre half who can play as a left back if required. He has found himself in and out of the team this season and will be glad for some game time.

The Wimbledon man has previously played for Northampton and Brentford.

Manager Jez George told cambridgeunited.com "We are delighted to be able to bring in a player of Brett's calibre and we have to thank Terry Brown at AFC Wimbledon for helping us to make this happen," he said.

"Once our fears were confirmed today that Josh would need an operation it was crucial that we secured a centre back on loan for a month until Michael Wylde can return from his operation.

"We spent the weekend looking at match reports for players who fitted the bill and weren't in their respective squads at the weekend and Brett Johnson was top of our list."

Of Johnson, Jez commented: "He is an experienced player at this level, and higher. Being left sided he gives us a good balance and is an excellent defender. He will train with us tomorrow and go straight into the squad for the weekend.
