November has being a good month for supporters of the mighty U's The U's have become draw specialists by drawing 3 Games in the league throughout November . The glitz and glamour of the FA Cup arrived at the abbey on 6 th November when the U's pulled of the unexpected and drew 0-0 against League one side Huddersfield Town. Games seem to come thick and fast in football during this time of year, and a United side high on confidence drew 1-1 against Grimsby town who are new to the blue square premier at the abbey on a freezing cold Tuesday evening.
Saturday 13 th November saw the hordes of Amber Army fans make the short trip down the A14 to the Elgood's brewery Arena, to see the U's take on the poppies. Robbie Wilmotts speed and finishing proved to provide a headache for the Kettering players, and this paid off with him scoring twice with the U's going in 2-0 up at the break.
I like many U's fans expected us to come out in the second half and finish them off but as it seems to be the case with the U's sometimes we took our foot off the gas and allowed them to come back into the game with it finishing 2-2.Travelling home after the game it felt like we'd lost, and it was a disappointing point. But we were still unbeaten in the league since Hayes and Yeading away on Tuesday 5 th October.
There was no rest for the U's though as they travelled up to Huddersfield for the replay on the following Tuesday evening. Over 500 Brave Die hard Amber Army fans made the long trip up to the frozen north dreaming of making it all the way to Wembley.
United's dreams nearly come true thanks to the boys in Amber giving their all and playing their hearts out. Young Rory Macculey popped up to score against the league one opposition and it looked like United would be making the 2 nd round of the cup, but the dream was broken when Huddersfield scored first on 89 minutes and then in injury time.
Martin Ling's men had a couple of days off from training to recover from the mental and physical exhaustion of the cup defeat. United looked to get over the cup heartbreak when Tamworth came to Town the following Saturday. United looked bright for the first fifteen minutes but started to tire, Tamworth capitalised and went in 2-0 up at the break. United's young guns Patrick and Marriott were thrown on in the second half and it was these two who changed the game, and spared the U's blushes by both getting on the score sheet along with another former youth Team prodigy Robbie Wilmott who converted a penalty. United pulled it back to 3-3 with fifteen minutes to go but it was another point gained for the U's.
Snow fell on Cambridge and a big freeze took over the country on the lead up to the visit of basement boys Altrincham. A lot of games fell victim to the weather last weekend, but thanks to the hard work of United's ground staff the game was deemed playable.
Altrincham came to the abbey on the back of a 7-0 thrashing by Crawley but most United fans didn't expect a walk over. Martin Ling's men did heap more misery on Altrincham though by knocking four goals past the visitors. Danny Wright and Wayne Gray both scored twice and the only negative was that United couldn't add to the visitor's misery by adding more goals to their name.
United should of finished November on the 30 th with a short trip up the A14 to Rushden and Diamonds. But with the big freeze and ice still causing havoc Nene park was deemed a no go zone as the pitch was frozen. With Rusden having the luxury of under soil heating, something which they've being unable to afford to use since being in the conference it was a massive disappointment to hear of this fixture falling victim to the weather.
November proved to be a good month for the U's who finish the month sitting 13 th in the table and who are high on confidence. Roll on Newport County on Sunday 5 th December.
